‘Hangman Game’ with the Students

November 14, 2008 · View Comments

I love posting these short stories about my students, so here’s another one that happened before the lessons started. I always get there early because I’m a good teacher and when some of the students arrive we play some Hangman to keep them amused. Well, it was Kevin’s turn and this is how it went:

[At this time we have the following letters; b _ o t h e _ ]
Kevin “Go.”
Me “Hmm, ‘r’ ?”
Kevin “Yes.” *he adds one ‘r’*
Me “Oh, just one?”
Kevin “Yes.”
Me *is thinking ‘brothel‘ XD* “Brothel?” *expects him to look confused*
Kevin “Nope.”

The way he said it with such certainty and understanding made me think he knew exactly what it was. If that wasn’t enough, the way he said it so blankly just made me die inside XD I should also clarify that the word was actually, ‘brother‘ – the students have a terrible habit of adding the letter only once, despite there being more. I suppose it’s forgivable considering Kevin is 10 :P
