Sara쌤’s Welcome Party

May 30, 2009 · View Comments

P090529002Last night we officially celebrated the arrival of Sara쌤 into the JungChul family. She’s been here two weeks, but with The Boss’ illness, we’ve not been able to arrange a night out. Well, after work yesterday, we met a local restaurant and had dinner and drinks. Afterwards, we moved on to another little restaurant and had some more drinks and sushi.

삼겹살 at a Local Restaurant

As is always the case on a Friday evening, I have to stay late and teach the High School students, and Owen usually stays behind to lock up with me. After we were finished with the late class and made sure the academy was locked up tight, we caught a ride in the academy bus to a local restaurant. The rest of the teachers were seated outside in the parking lot with the food already sizzling. It was nice to be outside because there wasn’t the problem of smoking. A nice breeze was blowing across the table which probably helped me survive the drinking.

A lot of the pictures didn’t come out very well because of the poor lighting and the fact that I was using my cell phone. I did get some alright ones which you can see above and I took a video that you can see below. It was a pleasant evening with all the usual events – The Boss making us all drink more than we wanted to [especially Sarah and Cindy], making up some random games to get us to drink even more, and him giving a long speech about how thankful he is for us working together and being the awesome team that we are. He said some really kind things about me as well which just reinforces my feelings on him being a genuinely nice man, wrapped in a scary, angry outer shell.

There’s some banter between me and Jane, as well as a little conversation between Cindy and 수학쌤 in the video, then The Boss giving his speech. It’s not particularly thrilling, and you do have to put up with my annoying video voice, but it does let you see what it’s like at our gatherings.

Eating Squirmy Octopus Legs

After we finished eating and drinking, we moved on to another restaurant and this time it was a lot more quiet and had better lighting as you can see from the pictures. I was probably annoying Jane by this point because I was focusing my photo taking on her because she was hating on me after an earlier drinking game. I took another video of the disgusting delicious looking octopus tentacles that were still moving around. Cindy made me try one but neither of us enjoyed it.

P090530017It was all about seafood and soju at this restaurant and seeing as everyone enjoys it apart from me, it was a good excuse not to eat any more. I did have a hard time hiding my drinks because there weren’t as many bottles on the table. That being said, Cindy and I did manage to empty two full glasses of soju into a separate container and make The Boss think we’d polished them off. Success.

Sitting on the floor is always a little uncomfortable for me because of my freakishly long legs but after the first half an hour, my legs just get used to it. When all the food was gone, we nipped outside for an ice cream and then everyone but me, took taxis home. Obviously, I did go home too, but I have the luxury of living very close by.
