Transformers was amazing. I can’t believe that I didn’t pay that much attention to the first movie because I was angry about Optimus Prime not looking more like he did in the original cartoon series. On another note, I’m sorry about the quality of the picture, but the Rock Music Bar was obviously very dark. Videos of me wearing a gold cowboy hat under the cut.
Waiting for the Shift to Finish at the Academy
I don’t work Saturdays, but the other Korean teachers do, and so I had to wait for them to finish their shift before we could meet up and head to 부평. I took my usual walk to Home Plus looking for some delicious foods to keep me going until Jane phoned, and also for some new Converse for the summer. When I went to the Converse store, there was no-one there and so I just headed down to the food part and bought my usual goodies, including yoghurts, crisps, cold coffee drinks and other various snack foods that are not particularly healthy or cheap.
Back at the apartment, I just chilled out, watched TV, playing some Winning Eleven, chatted on MSN and generally faffed about the apartment. When I have no plans, my days are usually the same. Those of you who know me in person, will know that I thrive on routine, and so waiting to go out is not something I enjoy. I’m definitely one of those people who likes to get up early, get out and get back before it gets late, rather than heading out in the evening. I have come to realise that my Korean friends don’t feel the same. In fact, I think I’m just a bit weird like that.
Heading to Bupyeong with Jane and Sara
At just after 5PM, I saw a message on my phone asking if I could meet Sara and Jane now because they had finished early. The message had arrived about thirty minutes before, so I frantically replied and got ready, just in time for them to meet me outside my apartment. We took the 103 bus to 부평. It took about forty minutes and we had to sit separately because there weren’t enough seats to sit together.
01. A Quick Stop at McDonalds
Jane said she wanted some ice cream and so we nipped into McDonalds. In the end though, they came back with burgers, fries and coke, so I guess they were hungrier than originally thought. Sara actually went back and got another cheeseburger – that’s right! Two hamburgers. Tell everyone.
I said I wasn’t hungry, but being in a McDonalds and watching them scoff burgers and fries made me remember how good a Quarter Pounder with Cheese tastes. It’s not something I would do often in the UK because of the cost, but I definitely need to treat myself more often here in Korea.
02. Transformers 2: Revenge of the Fallen
I’ll start by saying that the movie was awesome. Everyone who I’d spoken to before I went had told me that it would be worth the watch and the trailers that I’d seen on TV were the same. I’m over the fact that the Transformers look a bit too different to the characters from the original animated series. The main character, Shia LaBeouf is definitely becoming one of my favorite young actors. He’s got that ability to be serious and mix it with some comedic moments at the same time. Seeing Megan Fox was obviously well worth a watch too. I can’t believe I had no idea who she was before this movie. There were several moments during the film where I felt embarrassed to be sitting inbetween two pretty girls.
One complaint I did have about the movie was that the bad guys were too similar in appearance. I often found myself unable to tell the difference between Megatron and Starscream when they were in human form.
03. Sticker Pictures
I’ve never really been able to find my pose when it comes to sticker pictures and last night was no different. Both Sara and Jane had mastered it perfectly and came out looking really cute, but I just looked awkward and completely un-cute. To be fair, being so tall meant that I had to bend over at unnatural angles just to fit in the pictures.
As you can though, I do look quite dashing in my golden cowboy hat. I can’t believe I was wearing a cowboy hat and didn’t pull a cowboy pose. I don’t do well in front of the camera. In case you didn’t catch it in the video – Sara in blue and Jane in pink.
04. Sara Wants to go to the ‘Rock’ Bar
Apparently, Sara likes rock music. At least that’s what she said last night because she wanted to go and try different beers from around the world. The plan was to try a few each and decide which was the best at the end, but we ended up just having two rounds of cocktails. For some reason, I thought this would be better than drinking 소주 but I was wrong. I’m not a cocktail drinker normally, or even an alcohol drinker if I can get away with it, but I decided to try some in the spirit of the evening. I started with a Whisky Sour and my second was something with coffee in it. The second definitely had more alcohol in it and wasn’t actually that good.
05. Sara and Jane Didn’t Want to go Home Quite Yet
I was under the impression that after the Rock Bar, we were sharing a taxi and heading home, but they both kept asking me if I wanted more alcohol. I’m sure they must have known that I was wanting to go home, but I always worry about being a killjoy and they always worry that I’m bored. The truth is, I’m never bored with them because even though I’ve been here for a long while now, every day is special. Also, I really enjoy their friendship and wish I could show them how much it means to me. Anyway, I said I was game for some more drinking as long as I could take it easy. I didn’t want to wake up this morning, feeling like I did the last time.
After a while of walking u and down the streets, looking for a place to drink, we settled on a nice little, two level bar that you can see in the video above. I certainly noticed that I was being stared at a lot more than usual while walking around. Perhaps because everyone had been drinking and so their social etiquette was lacking, or it could have been because I was walking around with two very attractive women. Either way, it was all good.
After some drinking games and a little nattering, we headed home. Jane went one way in a taxi and Sara and I went home together. I didn’t realise it but she lives quite close to me, so we said our goodbyes and I went for a shower and bed. I wasn’t drunk, but I was just feeling really tired and so bed was a welcoming friend. It was an awesome evening and I can’t wait to hang out with the teachers again. I shouldn’t call them ‘teachers‘ really, because they’re more than that. They’re my friends.
