Usually, I keep my opinions to myself on controversial matters like this because I don’t like confrontation, but when I heard people claiming that SHINee were wrong to do nothing, I felt compelled to air my thoughts. Check out my many thoughts under the cut.
Before you continue, please understand that I do not like to see people being treated in this way. When you read through the post, it may seem that I’m being a little laid back about it, but it’s just the way I am. I’m not a bad person.

The above .gif is about the best shot of the incident you’re going to get and it definitely doesn’t show the manager in the best light. I’ve decided to use bullet points ask some questions and get my opinion across in an easy-to-follow manner.
- I’d like to say firstly that I think my opinion has been affected by living in this country for two years. After working in a nation where it’s typical that students get hit if they’re acting out, I find this less strange. That being said, this is totally different and I don’t think it extends to members of the public.
- What was she doing that close? I know some people will say that it doesn’t matter, but we’ve all seen fans go a bit over the top in their love for artists. It certainly doesn’t look like she was doing anything threatening, but I can’t see.
- Had the manager been instructed to so that? If the managers have been given permission by the agency [in this case SM Entertainment] to use whatever means necessary to make sure that nothing happens to them, then perhaps we need to look above the manager.
- How should SHINee have reacted? I think it’s fairly standard practice that artists keep their eyes on the floor when walking through crowds like that and so I wasn’t surprised that they looked like they were ignoring what happened. People expecting SHINee to run to the girl’s aid and berate the manager in front of the crowd are unfortunately going to be waiting a long time.
- I got a glimpse of the artists-manager interaction when I watched ‘Wild Bunny‘ and as you can see, the manager is in charge. If he says keep your eyes on the ground and ignore everything going on around you, then that’s what you do.
Seeing as this event happened in August of last year, I can’t comment on what should happen now, but I will say that I hope the manager‘s ‘privileges’ in that area have been revoked and that they have hired more security staff to make sure that this situation doesn’t have another chance to happen.
There will be no bashing in this post, so feel free to leave a comment and let me know what you think.

I agree with some of your points, but the only thing that kind of annoys me, is that Shinee just walked past like NOTHING happened, I'm sure if you were one of the shinee members and you saw someone got their head shoved by your own manager, you would react, even if its slightly, I'm not saying for shinee to rush into her arms, but atleast be like wtf?. Also thats the only thing that annoys me, as this has nothing to do with shinee themselves, its the managers fault and this has given shinee a bad name now v_v I just wish they showed a little bit of emotion or something idk.
taemin seems concerned also and same with minho.
I don't think she deserved to be hit as hard as she was. She should have been escorted away or something, but being hit in the head like that and then shoved away just seems so degrading and in saying this I take in mind their culture. This is why I'm not so upset with the members of Shinee. What could they do? Nothing. I don't think artists there really hold the power like they do in America. If something like that happened here the manager should be in the deepest mound of crap he could find.
I'm just wondering what happened before and after? Didn't really care if shinee reacted cuz well. Its not unexpected for their manager to push someone away from them(forcefully or not) and they wouldn't dare talk out against him in public. But what did the public do how did they react? for only revealing this months after when another manager acted in a similar way just to stoke a smoldering flame? i think they were lucky the situation happened on the more passive/blind eye eastern side. Cuz situations like these with even regular people start riots where worse would of happened. hopefully they really are more careful now
Taemin and Minho really looked worried about the girl – they were like 'wth!'. Onew and Key are more likely 'what happened?' Onew saw the incident late. When he turned around, he saw his manager pushed the girl aside – he didn't see his manager pushed the girl's head – so Onew just saw her leave then went to look down. As for Key, he saw everything. The girl was just in front of him and he just eyed her as well. As for jonghyun, he was looking down from the start till the girl left. So basically, it were just Taemin and Minho who looked worried and shocked. People should not hate SHINee. It's their manager's fault, not them. So yeah, alex, i agree to your dot-points :D
I've honestly refrained from thinking anything about this because no body has any idea what's going on. That girl could have been getting ready to do something to SHINee which is why the manager reacted the way he did or something else like that. What I'm trying to say is that we don't know the full details and so we shouldn't judge what's going on.
I come from Taiwan, so I don't feel so shocked and surprised to see this. Taiwan did USED TO have physical punishments in elementary school, though most schools have abandoned that type of punishment now. Like hitting your palm face up with a stick, or standing outside the classroom with your knees bent.
If it had been the case in Taiwan, there would have been security guards blocking every fan from being too close to any celebrity that's visiting/having an event somewhere. That's what is lacking in this .gif… some security guards… With security guards, I think this type of controversy wouldn't occur. But this is a case with none, so I do think the manager was only doing it for the best of SHINee's safety/best interest/whatever's on the agreement or contract. However, I do think the manager was too hard on the poor girl, it looked like he put a lot of force into that. =(
Maybe SHINee was told by the manager to ignore it, we never know, we're not there in person or close friends with any of them. We also don't know what the girl was trying to do, she could've been approaching them innocently and came too close, or was really one of those crazy fans for all we know.
I think it's right to hire security staff, then these type of things can be avoided. (and SHINee wouldn't be looking like they don't care/didn't see what happened either, that would put them in a bad light.)
This incident has made me a bit sad for a couple of reasons:
1 – the poor girl was hit so hard and no one did anything (and i don't mean SHINee in this case)
2 – that I was not surprised that the people around did not do or react stronger if they saw this happen (and again, I don't mean SHINee). As you said, kids can get hit for acting out in school.
3 – SHINee getting blamed for not showing more emotion/reaction (my reaction to this was… wth? were they supposed to come swooping in to rescue the girl?)
This is not an indictment on a country and culture that I happen to love. In my book, K-food, K-drama and Kpop rules. But I have seen enough manhandling of women (and even kids) to know I would not want to marry a Korean guy or raise my kids in Korea.
as for me. i still say that shinee has a bit of lack in this situation.
again. shinee is the artist and he is just the manager. wherever country you are
the celebrity still has a say in the matters that will affect him/them
i can't imagine that celebrities in korea would be pushed around by their management. of course they have a say in a lot of things. that would be idiotic if you didn't do anything. esp cause
firstly, your name and carrer are on the line if the people who manages you has a bad name.
and secondly, its inhumane to just watch someone being hit and not do something. especially if that person who just got hit is a girl and a fan. its wrong for shinee not to do something. if it was me i would even be the one to issue an public apology even if my managers don't allow, cause again, its my name on the line, cause he is my manager, not i am his client.
also how rowdy can a fangirl get? for her to deserve that. i don't think that she was doing anything threatening. also even if your in a society that makes it ok. to hit a person, i don't think you as a person would be very happy about it unless you really are angry and violent.
all in all, shinee should have done something, especially the one in front who didn't even showed a bit of surprised emotion,
I just wanna ask this: why did she get hit so hard on the head?
I won't mind if it was just a little push on the shoulder.. but hitting on the head is kinda rude. at least it is in my country. Honestly, if I'm a fan I'll be hurt emotionally that's for sure. As for Shinee, it was pretty chaotic so I won't blame them if they didn't know but those who did (Shinee or whoever it was around them) should have some reactions or something. U don't just go 'oh.. yes.. girl get hit on the head. Next!'. Just my opinion. Peace.
I don't think physical agression is justify in this case. I'm not sure how the girl was in there or what happen minutes later but hitting a girl, student o not, I dont think is the proper way to act. I think there are better ways to take her out of the way. I know Korean has a different culture but hitting a girl is just bad. I'm not a fan of Shinne but maybe they didn't know how to react in that moment although it would be better if they say something to the manager (if they can) Is just my opinion.

Being Korean myself, I don't actually find this kind of behaviour surprising. I think people were just looking at what happened in front of them instead of looking further out. Maybe what the manager did was harsh, but isn't it his job to protect his 'charges' (in this case, SHINee) anyway? This reminds me of what Kim Hyunjoong said in a show, that perhaps bodyguards needs to be installed in order to protect both fan AND the artists.

Netizens are really crazy in digging up the past. This happened like last year and only appeared now? Maybe CNBlue's manager started the trend. Anyway I feel sorry for SHINee having such a manager and the public blaming them for actions of their manager.

well Taemin looked pretty surprised..
Thanks for dropping a comment :)
okay i get how the manager need to do whatever it takes for the artist to be safe but isnt that taking it to the extreme i mean the girl is just standing there there are other ways to say “back off” with out being aggressive i understand there has to be some aggression but that only applies when the artist is put in danger and it is clear that she was just standing there and that hit did NOT look soft it look very hard, it is sad that some artist dont acknowledge the love some fans(not creepy one) give them:/
